The Detroit Lions had a chance to punch their ticket to the playoffs tonight with a win against Dallas, but fail to do so, falling to the Cowboys 42-21 on Monday Night Football.
The Lions looked sharp in the first half with quarterback Matt Stafford playing extremely well finding receivers everywhere but made some horrible decisions in the second half and ended up completing 26 of 46 passes for 260 yards, 1 interceptions and a rushing touchdown. The absence of running back Theo Riddick visibly affected the Lions but they managed to work a 21-21 halftime score.
The second half is when things got ugly for the Lions as the high powered Cowboy’s offense was in full swing. Rookie quarterback Dak Prescott looked like a veteran and played well again completing 15 of 20 passes for 212 yards and 3 touchdowns. Dez Bryant was on fire tonight as well catching 4 passes for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns including this beauty:
My MVP pick Ezekiel Elliot made the Lions defense look soft tonight rushing 12 times for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns including this 55-yard touchdown run:
Zeke moved into sole possession of 3rd place on the rookie rushing charts with 1,631 yards and only has George Rodgers (1,674) and Eric Dickerson (1,808) left to pass. Dallas was just toying with the Lions defense in the second half and gave Dak Prescott a break after a 95-yard drive, capping it off with Dez Bryant throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jason Witten:
On a night full of highlights, the Dallas Cowboys could have rested their starters but decided to put on a show under the Monday night lights and deny the Detroit Lions a playoff spot, at least for now. Detroit is in a tough spot now though as their final chance at playoffs comes against Aaron Rodgers and the red hot Green Bay Packers next week.
