The Boston Celtics blew out the Orlando Magic on Friday night in a dominant 128-98 victory.
The beginning of the game started off back and forth but that didn’t last for long as the Celtics ended the first quarter on a 16-4 run that pushed their lead to 39-24 heading into the second frame. The C’s shot a stellar 71% from the floor in the first quarter and didn’t slow down in the second ending the half at the 60% mark.
Boston held a comfortable 68-48 lead heading into the break and had contributions from everybody, and rookie Jaylen Brown led the way with 13 points and 5 rebounds. This is the second game in a row the Celtics have dominated in a category they don’t usually, as the first half they led the Magic 25-16 on the glass.
Next half was even better from the C’s as they continued to dominate, outscoring Orlando 36-17 in the third frame. Boston closed the half on a 21-4 run as they had built a massive 104-65 advantage that was rather easy to maintain in the final quarter. The Celtics were able to put themselves on cruise control and coast through the final quarter on their way to the 128-98 victory.
Boston finished the game shooting 56% from the floor as Isaiah Thomas led the way once again scoring 21 points to go along with 8 assists. Jaylen Brown had a tremendous game as well, starting in his second straight game dropped 20 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Boston outrebounded Orlando 47-37 and as the record shows this season, the team wins when they dominate the glass.
The most impressive part of this dominant win is that the C’s did it without Avery Bradley (Achilles) and Al Horford (groin). With both players playing a huge role in the team’s success this season, it was extremely impressive to see their depth as they got some great minutes from Tyler Zeller, Terry Rozier, and Marcus Smart off the bench. If the Celtics can continue to get everyone involved on offense and be able to save their best players for key times, their success will continue to build and there will be more W’s in the win column.
