Bruins Look Forward To Second Half Of The Season

This hasn’t been the best season for the Bruins. They have dealt with injuries to key players such as Patrice Bergeron and Tuukka Rask. They have had difficulty scoring and have been unable to find a proper backup for Rask. They need to improve or else there will be lots of changes coming to Boston this offseason.

Everyone can agree that the Bruins have to at least make the playoffs. Three years straight without a playoff birth is unacceptable with players like Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand in the prime of their careers. If this does occur Claude Julien needs to be fired.

Claude is a great coach. I wrote an article (Why The Bruins Need Claude Julien) pleading for the bruins to keep Claude a while back. With the track that this team is on a coaching change seems to be needed. The team needs a spark and they have to rebuild. The coaching needs to go and possibly the members of the front office. Zdeno Chara just needs to retire. The Bruins can get value for players like Colin Miller and David Krejci. Also just get rid of Jimmy Hayes he is terrible and he needs to go and everyone in Boston agrees. It doesn’t matter how he just needs to leave. Finally, Ryan Spooner is a good young player but he isn’t a fit for the Bruins. Claude never gave him a chance and maybe the Bruins can get someone for him.

The Bruins can go after a few guys this trade deadline and offseason. The Bruins have long been rumored to want to acquire defenseman Jacob Trouba. He has 20 points this season which is more than any Bruins defenseman. He signed a two-year contract but the Bruins would be able to trade for him if they really wanted to. Also with the Colorado Avalanche having a terrible season, the Bruins could be able to acquire such players as Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog. Duchene is a great player and would instantly be a top 6 player on this roster. Duchene has 15 goals this season and would be a top 3 goal scorer if he was on this current Bruins team. With the current state of the Avs, the Bruins might manage to get a quality player no matter if it is Duchene or Landeskog.

The Bruins need to build around players such as David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand. Marchand is leading the team in goals, points, and assists. He is clearly the future face of the team. Pastrnak is having a rough patch but is going to be a great player. He has 20 goals and would be well ahead of Marchand if it wasn’t for his scoring drought. Tuukka Rask overall has had a great season. He dealt with key players being out and playing constantly. He has played in 41 games so far this year which puts him in the top 4 among all goalies in the NHL. He is only four games behind Cam Talbot who leads the league in games played.

The Bruins can avoid all this by playing plain and simple good hockey. The offense needs to step up and score goals. David Pastrnak needs to get back to putting up points. Patrice Bergeron needs to step up his game and play the brand of hockey that we are used to seeing from him. Torey Krug needs to be an offensive beast. He isn’t his best when he is playing in his own zone. When he is at the point in the opposing team’s zone is where he really shines. The Bruins also need to give Tuukka a rest. He is playing a ton of games. Anton Khudobin needs to step up his game and help Tuukka out because we all know what happened with Malcolm Subban.

The Bruins are playing the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight and look to start the second half of their season with a win.
